Junk Removal in Boise: Can You Add More Stuff on Pickup Day?

Found more junk after your estimate? Here's how adding items works with junk removal in Boise, how the price changes, and how to avoid surprises.

Extra boxes, an old armchair and trash bags set aside in a garage in Eagle, Idaho, ready to add to a junk removal pickup

Here's a moment we see all the time with junk removal in Boise. We walk the pile, give you a price and set a pickup time. Then on pickup day you meet us at the garage and say, "So, we found a few more things."

A few more things usually means a treadmill from the basement, six bags from a closet and a dresser your brother-in-law finally gave up on. That's fine.

It's one of the questions we get asked most, so here's how it works, what happens to the price, and how to keep it from turning into an awkward chat in your driveway.

Yes, you can add stuff. Here's what happens to the price

Short answer: yes. We show up with room in the truck for exactly this reason.

We price by volume, which just means how much truck space your stuff takes up. Your estimate covered the pile we saw. If the pile grows, the price goes up by the space the new stuff takes, and that's it.

What we won't do is start loading and spring a number on you at the end. We look at what's new, tell you the updated price, and you say yes or no before anything gets touched. Same rule as the first estimate.

What if it's just a couple of boxes that fit into a gap in the load? Sometimes that doesn't change the price at all. We'll tell you straight either way.

Why the pile almost always grows

Once there's a real date on the calendar, people start opening doors they've kept shut for years. We get it.

The estimate was for the garage. Then you figure the crew will be right there anyway, so why not the old recliner in the den?

Then it's the shed. Then the box springs in the guest room nobody's slept on since 2019.

In the North End and the older streets on the Bench, it tends to be the basement or a crawl space that adds to the pile. Out in the newer neighborhoods along Meridian's Ten Mile corridor or in Star, it's usually garage overflow and moving boxes that never got unpacked.

None of that's a problem. It just helps to expect it so the new price doesn't catch you off guard.

Adding items to a junk removal in Boise without the hassle

The easiest thing you can do is give us a heads-up before pickup day. Call or text and tell us what's been added. Something rough like "a queen mattress, a desk and maybe ten bags" is plenty.

We can usually give you a ballpark right then.

If the list has grown a lot, we might book a longer time slot. Most junk removal jobs wrap up in under an hour, but a pile that's doubled can mean a second load. Better to know that now than to have the crew running late for the next house.

If you can, put the new stuff with the rest of the pile. One spot is quick to size up. If half of it's upstairs and the rest is out back, that's okay too, just walk us through it when we get there.

Tip: Snap a couple of phone photos of anything you've added and text them over before pickup day. It takes thirty seconds and saves a lot of guessing about price and truck space.

What about stuff we can't take?

This is the other side of adding items. Sometimes the new stuff isn't something we can haul. Wet paint, gas cans and some of the chemicals that turn up on old garage shelves need a different route.

You'd rather find that out on the phone than with us standing in your driveway. If something can't go, we'll tell you why and where it can go instead. Ada County and Canyon County both run household hazardous waste drop-offs for that kind of thing.

What makes pickup day harder than it needs to be

The big one is tucking extra stuff into the pile and hoping it slides by. We're not offended. But the price gets reworked on the spot, and nobody enjoys that conversation.

Next is adding something that changes the job, not just the size of it. A couch is a couch. A hot tub, a piano or a shed you want torn down needs different gear and its own look before we can give you a price.

Then there's changing your mind halfway through. Pulling things back out of a half-loaded truck is slow for everybody. If you're on the fence about something, set it off to the side and decide before we start.

Yes, we'd love your business either way. Honestly, though, the jobs that go best are the ones where we know what's coming.

Timing your junk removal in Boise around the seasons

Spring is when half the Treasure Valley decides to clean out at once, and our schedule fills up fast. If your pile has turned into a bigger job, telling us early means we can block out the right amount of time.

Summer's busy in a different way. Nobody wants to carry a surprise chest freezer out of a 100-degree garage at 4 p.m., you included.

Same-day service is sometimes possible. A bigger pile can push that to the next opening, though.

Winter's slower. That makes it a good time for the "while you're here" jobs that keep growing.

The bottom line

You can always add stuff on pickup day. The price only goes up by the space the new items take, and you'll hear the new number before we load a thing.

Send a quick text and a photo ahead of time and pickup day stays easy.

Whether you're in Boise, Meridian, Nampa or anywhere else in the valley, give us a call at (208) 593-2877. Tell us what's in the pile, even if it's still growing, and we'll come out and give you a free estimate.
